Corregidor: Malinta Tunnel

One of the highlights of Frustrated Sosyalera's Corregidor Tour...

... is the Malinta Tunnel.

Manong guard is all smiles. Sanay sa pikchur!

The tunnel had been dug through solid rock and offered complete protection from artillery or air attack. Command communications and medical units were located there. Gen. MacArthur set up the headquarters of USAFFE inside the tunnel where men and women would live and work during the siege of Corregidor. The tunnel was originally designed to house huge quantities of ammunition, food and supplies, and an underground hospital with a 1,000-bed capacity. The location of the tunnel beneath Malinta Hill made it ideal as a bomb-proof headquarters for the embattled Filipino and Americans defenders of Corregidor during World War II. During the siege of Corregidor, a number of shops and storage areas were added. -- corregidorisland.com

Token mood shot from moi. It's not just an old tunnel, it's also a theater! Tourists can opt to watch a light and sound show inside called the Malinta Experience.

Photobucket

Tickets to the show cost Php 180
(I think, I've forgotten now, but it's definitely less than Php 200).

Photobucket

The show was directed by Lamberto Avellana, the sculptures were crafted by Napoleon Abueva and narrated by the late Frankie Evangelista.
Thank goodness for the show, or the tunnel would've just given me the heebie-jeebies.

Photobucket

For visitors staying overnight, they can avail of the "Night Tour" of the Malinta Tunnel, where they can explore other areas not included during the day.

Photobucket

I think I'm satisfied with the exploration that I've done. Any more and I think it'll just give me a heart attack. Creeeeeepy.

Photobucket

But maybe I'll change my mind, you never know.

Nako. lalang.

Pede ako dito, diyan, doon, at doon pa.. Pedeng tapos rin after 2 years.. pedeng magtrabaho na.. pedeng ganyan.. pedeng ganun. Yah. Basta! Basta basta! [Geez make sense please.]

Grrr. Annoying talaga.

bleep bleep bleep

Says my dinasour pc.  My RAM crashed once again.  Great.  Good thing I have my cousin's laptop here in the house or else I'm gonna be cyberworld-deprived for weeks.  My pc is in dire need for an upgrade (read: another addition to my endless list of things to buy).  Note to self: check out for the price of a hard disk drive and RAM when I tour Gilmore next week.

So here's my updated list:

  • Kafka on the Shore
  • flip flops
  • toe ring
  • 1G memory
  • hard disk
  • pants that would look great for my new chucks (hehe)

Right, we create our own needs.  But hey, as long as we have the dough to buy them, I don't see anything wrong with that.  And of course as long as we don't set aside our other financial responsibilities, then everything should be okay.

Humdrumhumdrumhumdrum.  On the other channel though, everyone's going crazy in my family.  Yeah, having six aunts and three uncles who all have screaming personalities, could be pretty chaotic.  I swear, once I get my passport, I'd be out of this country as soon as possible.  I just wanna be in another place where no one else knows me.  The perfect escape.  Baaaah.  Someday.  Someday.

That Long?

Can't believe I havent visited this blog in weeks. Lovely.

Christmas was very predictable but quite enjoyable especially with our new found game Cranium at hand, it rocked our Christmas just a bit more.

New Year's Eve was.. let's just say, different and magical. I got to party with my friends and watch the first sunrise of 2009 from the balcony of a club. Looking forward to this year.. so far, so good!

I must say I got everything I've ever dreamed of last 2008, it's quite amazing looking back at things, God has truly been gracious. Seriously. To prove how great He's been let me count some of the blessings I've gotten in the past year:

Passing college with flying colors! Getting an awesome Thesis grade and beating them smart ass-too confident friends.

My small and yet lucrative jewelry business online

Getting my dream job. Yes, being a radio DJ, how awesome can that get? I dont need to work in a 9-5 job. wuhoo!

Meeting new and amazing people, from international rock bands to the average joes that made a difference

Getting to teach teens about God every Sunday

Materially? Getting that iPod Nano and Blackberry. Ohhh. How I love.

Providing financially. I didnt get paid back then, and somehow, I managed to still go out and party and enjoy life, it's unbelievable!

Those are the very few things I'm thankful for. I honestly can't wait for what's coming this year.

Happy New Year fellas! Cheers!
